What happens at a session?
The first session is a free, no obligation consultation, it gives you a chance to talk through your situation and the outcome you would like to achieve. It also helps to understand more about hypnosis and how it can help you. If you decide you would like to work with me another session or series of sessions can be booked.
My role as a therapist is to support you to achieve your goals, in coming to hypnotherapy you will already have a strong motivation to overcome your challenge, however there will also be some resistance to change at a sub-conscious (and possibly on a conscious level) if there were none, you would have already made the change by yourself.
Everyone is different and I will draw on various styles of hypnosis from Solution-Focused Therapy, to Regression Therapy, to Parts Therapy, helping you to overcome your barriers.
Each session lasts for 50 – 60 minutes and starts with a discussion about outcomes, obstacles and progress, you then move to a comfortable, relaxing position (either sitting or lying down – depending on how you feel).
You are in control throughout the session; it’s a myth that someone can make you do something against your will through hypnosis. If a suggestion was made that did not fit with your goal or that you did not feel comfortable with, you would simply disregard it. Being guided to connect at a deep level with your subconscious mind gives you the opportunity to communicate directly with the part of your brain that holds your feelings and your memories enabling you to make powerful changes to your habits and thought patterns.
As part of your support I will provide you with a CD or MP3 recording to listen to between visits, this could be a recording of your session or an alternative recording that will compliment your session, depending on what is most suitable.
